Dimapur





Dimapur – Dimapur is known for the ruins of Kachari kingdom that ruled during the medieval period. This Kachari tribe capital dates back to the 13th century and presently is a popular tourist destination. The ruins give a glimpse of its non-Aryan culture and mainly consist of temples and public baths. Located 13 km from the town of Dimapur is the Diezephe Craft Village that is host to expert craftsmen and weavers making handicraft out of bamboo. Wood carving and handloom fabric are also their specialty. The Rangapahar Reserve Forest is another interesting place of visit.

Kohima

Kohima – Apart from its scenic beauty, Kohima offers a number of cultural and historical sites of tourist interest such as the Kohima War Cemetery, which honors the martyrs of World War II. The magnificent stone built steps lead you to the 1421 slabs that are in placed in memory of soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the battle of Kohima. Another often visited tourist attraction, Kohima Cathedral is also the largest in the Asian continent. Situated atop the Aradura Hill, this church overlooks the entire city. When the battle of Kohima ended/came to an end, the bereaved families of the soldiers and civilians built this cathedral with contribution from Japan as well. Spread across an area of 25,000 square feet, this cathedral has a seating capacity for around 3000 worshippers. Other attractions at Kohima include the state museum and the sales emporium. The major natural attractions here are the Japfu Peak, Dzukou valley and the Dzulekie. Dzulekie is an ever green forest, located far from the city crowd. Rainbow trout, a rare species, is found in the main stream that flows through a gorge. Angling is an important activity here. You can also go on an excursion to the Angami tribe village of Tuophema. Thousands of tourists avail the hut accommodation at this village every year.


Kiphire




Kiphire – The most prominent attraction of Kiphire is the peak of Saramati, the highest in the state and among the non-Himalayan ranges in the country. The snow capped peak of this mountain is a stunning sight during winter. Trekking is an important activity over here from October to April. The Fakim Wildlife Sanctuary is close to the Myanmar border and covers 642 hectares. This sanctuary is home to a number of wildlife, birds, and medical herbs species. You can spot tiger, leopards, hornbills and pheasants here. The Wawade waterfalls site and Sukhayap are considered the lover’s paradise. The breathtaking waterfall is accessible from the Mimi village.


Peren




Peren – Scenic villages of Benreu and Mount Pauna make your trip here a memorable experience.   2. Thank you Jack for sharing it. Also look out for the Hornbill Festival, the grandest festival in Nagaland beginning December December 1 till December 7. Amazing display of cultural and traditional attire, dance,folk songs and lifestyle at this festival.
